Delicious bacon cheeseburger and fries from Oakland-based artisan sandwich truck, Fiveten Burger.
Baked macaroni and cheese fresh out of the oven. I started with a bacon-fat based bechamel, added cheddar, colby jack, cream cheese, then topped with more shredded cheese, breadcrumbs, and spices. I always make extra because this goes fast.
From the garden to the market: lots of huge, bright red tomatoes for sale at a weekly neighborhood market in Istanbul, Turkey. It’s common practice for salespeople at the market to cut open their produce to show off its quality to their customers.

Vegetarian spring rolls with fried tofu from Osha Thai in SF.
I’ve been keeping busy these last couple weeks with moving to a new town, and a new house. The backyard is unkempt but there’s several garden beds teeming with life of all sorts, rosemary, cilantro, mint, strawberries, onions, potatoes… But also slugs, aphids and a rather stubborn invasive spreading grass. We’ve started setting out trays of beer to attract and trap the pests and will spray later in the week. My next big project is to clean out the strawberry planter.
Later this month and through June we’ll be sipping on strawberry wine and mojitos from our own backyard. What’s your favorite way to enjoy strawberries?
